And Then There Was One by ~yomalyn:iconyomalyn:

:.: And Then There Was One :.:

She stood in the dark,
Her eyes filled with tears,
And her memories seeped back
Over the past eighteen years.

She slipped off her black dress,
Put on her favourite night gown,
And she slid into bed
Plagued by grief so profound.

She felt the cold spot beside her,
Where her husband once lay,
But now he was sleeping
In his bed called the grave.

She recalls waving goodbye
To the blue little Chevy
On the morning of the day
That her heart would grow heavy.

And later that night,
The Chevy headed home.
The sun had gone down,
And the moon was alone.

The light flickered green,
And the car pulled ahead,
But along came a Mazda,
Running a red.

The cars crashed and they crumbled
In a horrible wreck,
And in the mangled blue Chevy,
The man snapped his neck.

And both men involved
In this terrible crash
Lay dead amongst metal,
And sharp shattered glass.

Now the wife of the man
In the Chevy was at home,
Where she lay in her bed,
Cold and alone.

And she couldn't help but wonder
If he'd still be here,
If the man in the Mazda
Had just one less beer.

by driving drunk, you are deciding the fate of many people other than just yourself

Nice rhythm on that one, and great message. I couldn't agree more about drinking and driving.

...:; Do you know we're in high demand, us, people who suffer? Cos we don't take to arguing and we're quick to surrender ;:...

How profoundly sad :( (Sad)

To loose one's love...it must be horrible. Escpecially by such stupidity as drinking&driving... some people just don't think about others.
You write so lovely.. I just wanna read and read and read, never stop, never taking a pause.. your poems are just so amazingly sweet and good to read. Your words flow through my brain like sweet and yet a bit bitter honey.. I love your writing.

It doesn't get more serious than a Rhinocerus about to charge your ass!

There should be a 'Love Deviation' category. This is very moving - it kind of gets right inside you, and tells you the story.

I have no more cute things to say, this is just me stripped
:iconecho-si:
I have to say I think this poem wants desperately to be a ballad

it's a very sad story (you're good at those) with a nice clear moral.

You know, I'm not usually much on rhymes, mostly because I can't do it I would gather...but it works really well in this piece. I really like this, it's very sad, and it's not fair that someone completely innocent has to lose someone so important just because some other jackass out there can't control him/herself. It's ridiculous...

beautiful work.
